What exactly is a rooftop solar system?

Solar panels on your roof convert sunlight into DC electricity. An inverter converts that into normal AC power, which feeds your house first. Anything you do not use at that moment is exported to the grid through a bi-directional meter, and you are billed only for the net units you draw. There are no moving parts and nothing to operate — it runs by itself from sunrise to sunset.

How much government subsidy will I get?

Under PM Surya Ghar, residential connections get ₹30,000 for a 1 kW system, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above. The subsidy is not a discount we deduct — it is transferred by the government directly into your bank account after your system is commissioned and net-metered. We register your application and follow it through. Commercial and industrial connections are not eligible.

How much will I actually save?

In this region 1 kW generates roughly 120 units a month, so a 3 kW system produces about 360 units. If you are paying around ₹8 a unit that is close to ₹2,900 a month, or ₹35,000 a year. A household with a ₹3,000 monthly bill typically clears the net cost in three to four years and then has twenty-plus years of near-free power.

What size system do I need?

Divide your monthly consumption in units by 120 — that gives the kW you need to cover your usage. A 500-unit household needs roughly 4 kW. Do not oversize: exported surplus is credited at a lower rate than what you pay, so a system that matches your own consumption gives the best return. We check twelve months of bills at the survey before recommending a size.

How much roof space does it take?

About 80 square feet of shade-free roof per kW, so a 3 kW system needs roughly 240 square feet. The panels are mounted on a raised structure, so the space underneath stays usable — it is a common arrangement to put the array over a terrace and keep using the terrace.
